Welcome to the second generation of the Orbis Manual Small-Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) virtual reality (VR) experience.
The MSICS simulator is a learning tool for novice surgeons. It is designed as a self-paced (autonomous) learning platform to be used as an integral part of a comprehensive ophthalmic surgical training program.
It is NOT intended to duplicate all instruments and procedures of every training program.
The primary objective of the MSICS training tool is to prepare the novice surgeon for their first MSICS wet lab experience:
By providing an understanding of basic surgical landmarks, surgical instruments, and surgical sequence
By encouraging safe habits for instrument handling in the microsurgical field
By stimulating the development of reliable, basic surgical mechanics that can be applied to any cataract surgery technique and instrumentation.
The second objective is to shorten the learning curve of the novice surgeon, reduce the stress of initial surgical experiences, and improve the conceptual communication between live surgical instructors and their trainees.
Please familiarize yourself with the content on this portal before you begin VR training.
We encourage you to complete the free online Cybersight MSICS Essentials course prior to simulator training. Please
You will find setup guides, simulation essentials, helpful resources, and a trove of knowledge that will prepare you to make the most out of the VR simulation.
We would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, concerns, or problems with anything so that we can improve!
