Whether you're a student or an educator, please take a moment to familiarise yourself with these guidelines to make the most out of your virtual learning experience and ensure the longevity of the equipment.
Welcome to our Safety and Maintenance Guide, dedicated to ensuring a secure and optimal experience with our VR simulation. Your safety is of paramount importance, and proper maintenance of hardware is key to an immersive and trouble-free educational journey.
The information on this page covers essential safety measures and maintenance practices related to the VR headsets, gaming laptops, and 3D Touch Haptic Arms. By following these guidelines, you contribute to a safe, comfortable, and long-lasting VR experience.
Product Care:
Do not leave the headset in direct sunlight. Exposure to direct sunlight can damage the optics and display.
Do not shine a laser or external light source through the lenses as it may damage the display.
Ensure the controller battery tray cover is in good working condition and locks in place.
As with any electronic device, avoid exposure to water or fluids.
Wearing Comfort:
Ensure the headset is worn comfortably; avoid over-tightening the straps. You can learn more about headset adjustments on the VR headsets pages.
Take breaks during extended use to prevent discomfort or eyestrain.
Cleaning:
Clean the lenses with a dry microfiber cloth to maintain optimal visibility.
Use a dry or lightly damp cloth for the facial interface and straps.
Do not clean lenses with any liquid or chemical cleaners.
Do not clean the facial interface fabric with alcohol or any other abrasive cleaning solution.
Cable Management:
Routinely inspect the headset cables for any signs of wear or damage.
Be cautious of tripping hazards, and use cable management solutions to secure loose cables.
Environmental Awareness:
Clear the play area of obstacles and ensure there's adequate space for movement.
Be aware of your surroundings to prevent collisions with objects or people.
Ventilation:
Place the gaming laptop on a flat, well-ventilated surface to prevent overheating.
Clean the laptop's cooling vents regularly to maintain proper airflow.
Battery Care:
Avoid overcharging the laptop; unplug it when fully charged.
Store the laptop in a cool, dry place when not in use.
Performance Optimization:
Close unnecessary background applications during VR use to maximize resources.
Transportation:
Take caution when closing the laptop to avoid trapping wires in the hinge.
Use a protective laptop case when transporting it to prevent damage.
Secure the laptop during transit to avoid shocks or impacts.
Product Care:
Always store the haptic arms in a clean, dry environment. Avoid places with excessive humidity or direct sunlight.
Protect the haptic arms from dusty environments. Use dust covers (if available) or place the haptic arms back into the case if they won't be used for some time.
To properly lift the device grasp the base of the unit on both sides. DO NOT lift by grasping the pen or arm as this could result in severe damage to the device.
Calibration:
Calibrate the haptic arms via the Fundamental Surgery Hub before each use.
Ensure proper alignment using the placemats to maintain accurate haptic feedback.
Cleaning:
Clean the haptic arms' surfaces with a soft, dry cloth.
Avoid using abrasive materials that could damage the haptic feedback mechanisms.
Use Only When Unimpaired:
A comfortable VR experience requires an unimpaired sense of motion and balance. Do not use the headset when you are:
Tired or need sleep
Under the influence of alcohol or drugs or hung-over
Experiencing or have digestive problems;
Under emotional stress or anxiety; or
Suffering from cold, flu, headaches, migraines, or earaches as this can increase your susceptibility to adverse symptoms.
Hygiene:
Users are encouraged to maintain personal hygiene, especially when sharing VR equipment.
Do not eat or drink whilst using the VR equipment.
Emergency Procedures:
In case of discomfort, dizziness, nausea, or other adverse effects, discontinue use and consult a medical professional.
Remember, safety is paramount. Regularly check and maintain your hardware to ensure a secure and enjoyable VR experience. If you encounter any issues, consult our technical support team.
