Heritage

Andalucía, our homeland,

is known for its beautiful heritage because it conserves the cultural mix between the last guests in Andalucía, the Arabians and the Spanish culture itself.

THE ALHAMBRA IN GRANADA

The Alhambra was built in 1238 and it is settled into the Alcazaba of Albaicín. This structure was put up because Mohammed I, the king of the Arabians, wanted to live in Granada because in this century it was the main city in Andalucía.  So, it was converted into his new residence where he started to live.

This historical building has different parts. All of them have a huge importance but the most popular is The Lions Fountain.

THE GIRALDA IN SEVILLE

This structure is from Sevilla. It was built in 1195. Then, when Christians conquered Sevilla they repurposed a bell tower for the Sevilla’s Cathedral. The Giralda has a lot of curiosities. One of them is that its height is 104 meters and for many years in the past, it was the highest tower in all Europe. Moreover, The Giralda is higher than the Big Ben or The Tower of Pisa.

THE MOSQUE IN CÓRDOBA

This monument located in Córdoba is 1036 years old and is one of the oldest structures still standing from Al-Andalus. When Córdoba was conquered by the king Ferdinand III, the mosque was converted into a Catholic cathedral.

It is one of the best structures in Andalucía because it shows how we could change structures from different cultures respecting the building and its culture and religion.

Úbeda, our city, is famous all over Spain. It is a UNESCO World Heritage, known for its Renaissance architecture that dates from the 16th century.

THE SALVADOR CHAPEL

This famous chapel, built between 1536 and 1559, is the main identification of the Úbeda Renaissance architecture. Andrés de Vandelvira designed it for Francisco de los Cobos as his family's funeral chapel.

SANTA MARÍA DE LOS REALES ALCÁZARES

This is the oldest church in our city. It was built over a Muslim city's main mosque. In the 13th century it was converted into a Christian church by Fernando III the Saint. It is in front of the town hall building.

JAÉN´S CATHEDRAL

The cathedral was built in 1246. But today's appearance was made in 1540 to convert it in a Christian church.

The cathedral was built by Andrés de Vandelvira, who worked on it from 1550 to 1575. The outside sculptures were made of St.Mary Square. However, inside the style is Renaissance architecture.
