Title: Investigating the effectiveness of students’ learning motivation in online PE lesson during COVID-19

Abstract

With the outbreak of COVID-19, there is a significant change of PE teaching form face-to face to online teaching. Since such changing may affect students’ learning motivation which influences the quality of teaching, it becomes the gravity of this project. There are two questionnaires delivered to students. One delivered in the period form October, 2020 to December, 2020 when is the time shifting form online learning to face-to-face teaching in PE ; another is the period from February, 2021 to March, 2021, when is the time during online teaching in PE. There are 208 and 146 responses in the first and the second questionnaire respectively. Although results find that students are interested in such alternative mode of teaching and majority of students agree that teacher cares their needs of teaching, they are less willing to question which affects their curiosity in discovering new knowledge in PE. Meanwhile, it also discovers that majority of students in a belief that the effectiveness of online PE lesson is low. Besides, learning quality may also be hindered without adequate support as results finds that students received less resources in hardware and technical. Comparing with the result of two questionnaires, it finds that online teaching decreases students’ learning motivation. Casing such result may owing to the limited activity space, interaction with classmates, the interestingness of lessons and without teacher supervision. Yet, there are some limitation in this research, such as the scale of the research and type of mythology due to the epidemic which cannot make a face-to-face interview. Such limitation may also affect the objectivity of the project. All in all, results finds that online learning in PE hinders students’ learning motivation since they received inadequate support and discovering new knowledge. It is essential to examine more about how to address this circumstance.

Title: The effectiveness of Video Modeling on balance for teenagers with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract:

Video Modeling (VM) is an evidence-based educational strategy and an intermediate technology to educate students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the effectiveness of a 3-week neuromuscular training for improving ASD teenage balance performance and avoid injury by improving ASD teenage static postural sway and neuromuscular control. Twelve students with ASD level one or two who are 13-16 years old are selected to join a 3- week training with video modeling, every day with 15-20 minutes. The main methodology in this investigation is quantitative research to observe the performance of students. After training, comparing with the result of pre-test and post-test of BOT-2 (Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency | Second Edition Brief Form). Results indicate that, most students have improved who are following the training with VM. The performance of balance tests with opening eyes are better than closing eyes. The level of improvement is depending on frequency of training.

Title: The barriers to Physical Activity participation and psychological well-being of children with intellectual disabilities in special school.

Abstract:

Introduction: The objective of our research was to understand the barriers of Intellectual Disability (ID) students participating in Physical Activity (PA) in Hong Kong and understand psychological well-being of children with ID in special schools. Methodology: We sent 2 questionnaires to mild and moderate ID schools and filled in 100 questionnaires through the parents of ID students to determine the result. Key Result: We observed that there is a significant negative correlation between the time of ID children spending in watching tv programs, video or playing video games and the time of doing exercise per week. (r=-0.0230, p=0.039) In addition, we also observe that there is no significant difference between Male and Female children with ID on the frequency of doing exercise in a week. (󠅏mean: male: 2.52, Female: 2.12, t=1.231). Key Conclusions: There are Internal, external, economic and environmental barriers to effect ID children to participate in PA.
