X plays a significant crucial role in mass media today. X is really important for sharing news, interacting with others, anc changing how we communicate especially at a time like this with a new digital age. The consumption of X is so heavy due to (Styliani) :
Journalists have increased embracing characteristics of social media like X to connect to their audiences more efficiently
The users able to interact to news content in features like comments. This opens a new world of people expressing additional information, personal opinions, and interactions between the public and journalists.
Hosting its political debate and heavy public speech.
According to Saylor Academy, ethics are the set of moral principles that guide a person's behavior (Arnold. 2023). In other words ethics is a set of rules or moral principles that help decide how to handle or behave in different situations. The rules of what is considered right and wrong on social media is not considered important in the digital world, X is definitely a perfect example. According to the article X researchers use data from the platform and share without asking for permission. The role of algorithms is a huge factor on how people behave on the computer, the algorithm is what helps researchers come to the conclusion their needs to be better guidelines that helps consider what and how everything may be connected to where all of the data ends up, or in other words known as the "BIG DATA"(Arnold 2023). In the text what is labeled as the "social ethics" is seen to be tricky due to the ability of being able to get permission from people or keep their information private (William 2017). Although their is some concern about privacy, their is not a huge preference regarding peoples post on X because it is commonly known to repost and reveal their opinions in the comments. An example of this would be this podcast I listened to on NPR " U.S. Ethics Chief Was Behind Those Tweets About Trump, Records Show," basically talked about The head of U.S Office of Government Ethics Walter Shaub Jr. writing tweets advising Donald Trump to sell his businesses, these tweets resulted in a huge fuss due to the expectations of the office usually remaining quiet. Trump is up for question of him being unethical because of how he has not fulfilled his promises, and was posting and not following what was right.
In summary this article/podcast explains the story of Tim Utzig a person who is visually impaired who was scammed on twitter losing $1,000. This article highlights ethical concerns related to online scams and exploitation of vulnerable individuals, X has upped their security to safeguard individuals like Utzig and follow what is more ethical.
Social media marketing is a new strategy good communication for between consumers and marketers, and to boost branding (Jamil 2021). Aside from big businesses, smaller businesses also benefits on platforms such as X through the social media marketing. X has positive impacts like customer service, communication, increase in followers due to positive reviews, influencer outreach, and cross-promotion of content (Sumner 2014). Some examples of accounts that have made sure to maximize and use their social media marketing to its fullest potential are the fast food chains such as Wendys, Mcdonalds, BurgerKing, and more. Wendys is a perfect example in promoting their brand like what is coming back in stock, communicating with customers and influencers, and cross-promotion where they argue or go back and forth with other fast food chains like Mcdonald's.
Brands have also learned to interact with consumers in multiple ways to promote such as polls, in the comments, giving promo codes, hashtags, and using pictures posted in the comments on to their actual page. This boost customer relationship management. An example of this would be Fenty Savage by Rihanna. The social media marketing with this brand is immaculate, and you can see promotion, and customer relation building throughout the page. In the book, "The Social Media Marketing Book," it highlights small brands like Blendtec a blender company became viral due to posting on social media like X, facebook, flickr, and other platforms gaining a tremendous amount of followers. This proves social media helps businesses create and establish their names to audiences never expected before.
Media Bias is having a specific opinion or natural tendency to feel a way about something (Cihon 2016). In media bias can show up in many ways for example conservative and liberal. X has been a platform for news since it was founded in 2006. X has allowed organizations to express and establish the roles through political/societal movements on the platform. Due to X being the platform that was set as the foundation of this type of discussion, reserachers have predicted things like the election, even though it may be inaccurate (Cihon.2016). The example to the right is a perfect example of media bias, due to Donald trumps feeling of what is okay he expressed it on X, the conservative party believed intaking over the capitol and it was a huge event that was talked about all over X. Here is a tweet of him encouraging what was happening in the beginning. Relating to this topic in the Tv shows SNL, there was a skit clearly showing media bias regarding Donald Trump. In this skit they immitate donald trump expressing how they feel through the reenactment. In a part of the clip fake trump expresses how he is the favorite president and it is followed with laughter from the audience. This clearly is an example of media bias showing the opinions of the production and audience expressing how they feel.
Hi my name is Tnyas Catalan and I major in Marketing. I am supposed to be graduating this may 2024, what I enjoyed in this class wiki was honestly was researching examples. I chose this topic because I feel like X is a perfect example of everything we learned in this class, especially because although there are guidlines they are almost never met on this platform. I never knew how much people were scammed on X because it seems impossible on this app especially when it comes to money since you arent ever asked to pay.
