Career & Technical Education

The Franklin High School Dance Program is very excited to offer a new track of dance training courses in conjunction with the current dance program. This new track of courses will be a Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) dance track. The CTE/CEP Dance Track is meant for students highly interested in studying dance in college or having a professional career in dance. A student in the CTE/CEP track of study will resemble a Dance Major in a Vocational High School with dance in their schedule for all four years of high school.

Dress code: Ladies must wear leotard and tights/leggings. Gentlemen must wear form fitting black bottoms (athletic tights are preferred) and white tops. Ballet shoes and jazz shoes when needed.

Brief Course Overview: There will be equal emphasis on written dance work as well as physical dance work. Students that do not maintain academic integrity in their dance courses as well as their academic courses can be removed from the CTE/CEP Dance Track.

4-Year Commitment (Audition as an incoming freshman)

Technique 1 (Freshman Year)

Technique 2 (Sophomore Year)

Technique 3 (Junior Year)

The Company Honors (Senior Year) *Eligible for 6 college credits

*Senior year of the CTE/CEP Dance Track (The Company Honors) is the course where students can receive college credit and a CTE certificate. The CTE distinction entails that students will be provided with authentic work experiences through internships and a CTE certificate after they pass the industrial exit exam at the end of the course. Students are going to learn professional dance skills as well as college readiness skills. Technology will be integrated throughout the course. The CEP distinction makes it possible for students to attain both high school and college credit for one course. The Franklin Township School district partners with our local community college, Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC), and students enrolled in CEP courses earn grades and credits on both their high school and RVCC transcripts. The cost to students and families is $200 per semester/3 college credit course ($400/6 college credits total for the full year), which is a large discount for college credits. Current tuition at RVCC for college students is $147 per credit, so CEP students save a significant amount of money in addition to being able to start college with credits already in hand. These college credits are then transferable to other colleges and universities. Please note that students who are on a free or reduced lunch program are eligible for scholarship monies for these courses.
