Summer 1
It is hard to believe how quickly this year has flown by, and we are now approaching our very last half term in Nursery! The children have truly flourished over the past few months, growing in confidence, kindness, and independence. It has been a joy to watch them learn and play, and they are now well and truly getting ready to make that exciting big step up into Reception!
This term, our classrooms were buzzing with excitement as we dived into the wonderful story, The Queen’s Hat. The book sparked a closer look at our capital city and our own country. Together, we tracked the hat's windy journey across London’s most famous landmarks, and the children loved sharing which iconic spots they would most like to visit themselves. To top off our royal adventures, we also explored the history of our Royal Family and learned all about our new King!
Following our royal adventures, we read The Worrysaurus. This beautiful story sparked some incredibly open and thoughtful conversations about our emotions. The children explored what it means to feel worried and, importantly, identified the trusted people they can always talk to, both here at school and at home.
To wrap up a fantastic half-term, our final text was The Dot. This inspiring story unleashed everyone's inner artist! The children have been getting wonderfully creative, experimenting with different mark-making tools to design and explore their very own unique dots. It has been a brilliant, hands-on end to a busy term.
We have been working incredibly hard on developing both our gross and fine motor skills! From active outdoor play to our structured PE lessons, the children have been moving and refining their coordination. A real highlight has been our wonderful LauLau sessions, where everyone thoroughly enjoyed making big, expressive movements to the music—and even singing along to all the songs!
In Maths, we have been busy consolidating our learning across a variety of different areas, including mastering our numbers to 3. The children have also thoroughly enjoyed exploring 2D shapes, taking their learning outdoors to draw giant shapes with chalk! Back inside, we have been busy investigating patterns, using vibrant paint and a wonderful selection of loose parts to create our own designs.
We thoroughly enjoyed our special Coronation Day celebrations in Nursery, and the weather was definitely on our side! In preparation for the big event, the children were busy baking their own delicious jam tarts, crafting royal crowns, and decorating beautiful bunting. On the day itself, we made the most of the sunshine with lots of fun outdoor activities, including messy and creative painting using the vibrant Union Jack colours!
We hope you all have a wonderful break and we will see you back for your final term in Nursery!
