FOXHILL PRIMARY SCHOOL - Summer 1 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderfully busy half term it has been at Foxhill! I would like to start by saying a heartfelt thank you to all our families for the fantastic support you continue to show our school. It was wonderful to welcome so many parents and grandparents to our OPAL Stay and Play Day. The children were incredibly proud to show their families the wide range of play opportunities they enjoy at Foxhill, from exploring and building to creating, imagining and problem-solving together. We were delighted to receive such lovely feedback, including one parent who said, “I thought it was fantastic, it’s what children should be doing! Really refreshing to see so much opportunity for them to explore, there was so much to do!” Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped celebrate the joy, independence and learning that OPAL play brings to our children every day.

Across school, the children have been busy with trips, sports tournaments and exciting opportunities that continue to enhance and enrich our curriculum. Our Year 6 children have also done us incredibly proud, completing their SATs with maturity, determination and great resilience. They have certainly earned their recent residential, where they enjoyed a very busy and memorable few days together.

As we look ahead, next half term is set to be another incredibly busy and exciting one, with lots more learning, events and celebrations to look forward to. Please do keep a close eye on the diary dates so you don’t miss any of the important events coming up. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

A big thank you to all our families for your support following our reminder about attendance and punctuality. We are really pleased to say that lateness has improved, and this has made a noticeable difference to the start of the school day. When children arrive on time, they come into school calmly, settle quickly and are ready for learning from 8.45am. Please help us keep this positive improvement going by making sure children are in school every day and on time, unless they are genuinely unwell. Good attendance and punctuality make a real difference to children’s confidence, routines and progress.

Pastoral Corner – Supporting Every Child to Thrive - A note from Mr Watson

I hope you and your families are well and enjoying the brighter, (occasionally) warmer days!

At Foxhill my main priority is ensuring our children feel safe, happy, and supported so they can thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Across school we have been really practicing hard on our breathing and how that can help to calm and regulate our emotions. One technique we have been using is ‘Belly Breathing’: this is a paced breathing technique that helps to regulate in times of stress and help with focus.

To practice BELLY BREATHING at home:

Start with your hand on yout 'belly' and breath in for a count of 5.
Hold for a count of 2
Breath out for a count of 5
Hold for a cound of 2

Repeat this 3 or 4 times.

I'd like to say a big WELL DONE to all our Year 6 children. They took SATs in their stride and did themselves and Foxhill proud on their residential trip to Herd Farm earlier this week. It was a privilege to watch as they faced fears and made life long memories.

As we move towards the end of the school year, we continue to ensure that every child feels safe, supported and ready for their next steps. If your child is experiencing any worries, big or small, or if there are changes at home that might affect their day at school, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child’s class teacher. We are always here to listen and help. Alternatively, we have the ‘Parent referral form’ that can be found in school reception should you have any concerns that you feel some Pastoral support would help with.

WORLD CUP FUN!

WORLD CUP 2026!

The World Cup is fast approaching, this year the World Cup is bigger and better than ever before. In school I am running a World Cup Predictor Competition. Predict what will happen throughout the competition, predict correctly to earn points, the one with the most points is the winner and will receive some World Cup related prizes. It is £1 per entry and money raised will go towards school funds. The closing date for entries is Friday 12th June.

a message from Miss sharpe - sustainablity lead

Here at Foxhill, we are determined to help the environment and do our part in reducing our carbon footprint. This is really important because it helps to protect our planet for the future, reduces harm to wildlife, and ensures we’re using our resources more responsibly. The pupils have shown fantastic enthusiasm for this, especially during World Earth Day, where they took part in a range of activities. They really got stuck in, thinking carefully about how we can look after our world and coming up with great ideas to make a difference.

WOW scheme

This term saw us introduce our new WOW scheme, the Walk to School Challenge run by the UK charity Living Streets. This pupil-led initiative encourages our children to travel to school in active ways and log their journeys to earn monthly badges.

As a school, this is an important step in promoting healthy, active lifestyles while also helping to reduce traffic and improve safety around our school gates. By encouraging more families to park further away and walk part of the journey, we aim to ease congestion and reduce parking issues at drop-off and pick-up times.
