Year four have had a great start to 2026! The children have approached each topic with enthusiasm and resilience, developing new skills and growing in confidence as learners throughout the half-term.
In English, the children wrote their own adventure stories, using their imagination to create exciting plots, settings, and characters. They produced some fantastic pieces of work and showed great creativity and enthusiasm for storytelling. We finished the half-term by writing a newspaper article based on a twist of The Three Little Pigs, which allowed the children to explore a different writing style and consider alternative viewpoints.
Year 4 are continuing to work hard on their times tables and making brilliant progres. Many children are building great speed and accuracy, which is fantastic to see. Please continue to encourage regular practice at home, especially on TT Rock Stars, as this really helps to keep their skills sharp and confidence high.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support — We are very proud of the effort shown by the children during Spring 1 and look forward to building on this success next term.
Arts Week
What a fabulous Arts Week we had in Year 4! The children enjoyed learning about traditional Indian Warli art, exploring its storytelling, distinctive patterns and cultural significance. They practised key shapes and techniques before designing their own pieces, first creating an authentic-style artwork inspired by traditional clay and mud wall paintings, and then producing a more modern interpretation using vibrant oil pastels. We also discovered the importance of Tarpa dancing, which brought great energy and excitement to our week. It was a wonderful celebration of creativity, culture and collaboration.
Writing
In writing, we have been creating our own versions of the opening to an adventure story inspired by The Girl Who Stole an Elephant. The children worked hard to include accurate speech punctuation and engaging descriptive language to capture the reader’s interest. It has been wonderful to see their imagination shine through as they crafted exciting and atmospheric story beginnings.
Mental Health Week 2026
We were proud to take part in Children’s Mental Health Week in school. Throughout the week, the children engaged in a range of thoughtful activities, including the BBC Live Lesson, mindfulness breathing sessions and creative Zentangle art. These activities encouraged us all to reflect on the importance of looking after our wellbeing and mental health, reminding the children of simple strategies they can use every day to support themselves and others.
As we continue to build towards the DfE Multiplication Tables Check in Summer, we are encouraging all children to practise regularly on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS). Just a few minutes each day can make a big difference in developing speed, accuracy and confidence with their times tables. Thank you for your continued support at home — your encouragement and help with regular practice really does have a positive impact on your child’s progress. Working together, we can ensure the children feel prepared and confident for the check.
Year 4 continue to impress us by beating the rest of KS2 in our weekly TTRS challenge — what a fantastic achievement! Their enthusiasm, determination and commitment to practising their times tables are really paying off.
We were also incredibly proud of the children who represented our school in the recent Times Tables Tournament held at Keelham alongside other local schools. They demonstrated fantastic determination, teamwork and impressive recall speed, and were wonderful ambassadors for our school. Well done to everyone who took part — we are very proud of you!
PE - Gymnastics
We hope you all have a wonderful half term break and enjoy a well-deserved rest. We look forward to another action-packed half term, with our exciting trip to Jorvik and a special author visit in school — just to name a few of the exciting experiences ahead!
