As the Autumn term draws to a close, we would love to share some of the fantastic learning and special moments that Year 4 have enjoyed over the recent weeks. From our informative trip to Yorkshire Water, to our Oracy themed day involving card tricks and ending the term on a high with our KS2 visit to church and the pantomime this week... Year 4 have loved every moment!
This term in English, Year 4 have stepped back in time to the age of the Vikings, writing imaginative diary entries from the perspective of a Viking child. The children wrote about repairing fishing equipment and building a longship ready to journey across the seas in search of new land. Alongside this, in Reading, we have been enjoying the novel The Queen’s Nose by Dick King-Smith. The children have been exploring key information from the text and thinking deeply about the characters, their feelings and motivations, while making thoughtful predictions about the story.
Year 4 have been working extremely hard on their times tables and we are really pleased with the progress they are making. Many children are building great speed and accuracy, which is fantastic to see. Please continue to encourage regular practice at home, especially on TT Rock Stars, as this really helps to keep their skills sharp and confidence high.
Thank you, as always, for your wonderful support this term — From all of the Year 4 Team, we wish you and your families a joyful, peaceful and well-earned Christmas holiday!
Festival of the Spoken Word
We absolutely loved learning a range of card tricks!
In Design and Technology, the children have been learning about the difference between processed and fresh foods and where our food comes from. They put this learning into practice by making their own pizza, bread and soup. The practical sessions were full of excitement, with pupils carefully measuring, mixing and following instructions safely. The class were extremely proud of their delicious creations and showed great enthusiasm throughout this hands-on learning experience.
This term, Year 4 have been very lucky to borrow some exciting artefacts from the Industrial Museum in Bradford. The children had a wonderful time exploring the different objects, including trying out simple Viking games. We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Scandinavia and discovering more about the Viking invasions, and the children have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the topic.
In Music, Year 4 have also been learning to play and perform using the glockenspiel, practicing rhythm, notation and ensemble skills as they work together as a class.
In PE, the class have been developing their creativity through dance. They worked together to choreograph an exciting Special Agent themed routine using levels, cannon, formation changes and freeze frames. The teamwork on display has been fantastic, with children supporting one another and refining their movements to create confident and engaging performances.
During the first week, Year 4 enjoyed a super trip to Yorkshire Water, where the children learned why it is important to only flush toilet paper down the toilet. They were fascinated to discover the long process involved in making our water clean and safe to drink. We were disgusted to see how dirty the water actually is to start with!
