As we come to the end of the Autumn 2 term, we would like to say how proud we are of the children and all that they have achieved. They have worked incredibly hard, shown great enthusiasm for learning, and enjoyed taking part in lots of seasonal and festive activities.
The children were absolutely fantastic in our Nativity performance this term. They showed great confidence, enthusiasm, and teamwork while learning their lines, songs, and actions. We are incredibly proud of the effort they put in and hope you enjoyed watching them shine on stage.
Maths
In Maths this term, the children have been building on their understanding of numbers to 10. They have been learning to add and subtract within 10 using a range of practical activities. We have used number blocks, part–part–whole models, number lines, and missing number problems to help develop their confidence and understanding. The children have shown great enthusiasm and are becoming more secure in explaining their mathematical thinking.
English
In English this term, the children have been working through Curious Quests with Professor Klunk, focusing on developing their sentence writing skills. They have been learning how to write clear sentences using capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops, as well as practising sounding out words to support spelling. The children have worked hard and shown great creativity and enthusiasm in their writing.
History
In History this term, the children have been learning about shops in the past. We went on a walk around our local area to look at older shops and compare them to shops today. The classroom was then transformed into an old-style bakery, where the children took part in a range of activities, including making cinnamon swirls with clay, creating baker’s hats, and role-playing as customers and shopkeepers. This hands-on experience helped the children to deepen their understanding of how shops have changed over time.

Final Message
As we come to the end of the term, I would like to say how much I have enjoyed getting to know the children as I have gradually taken over the class this term. The transition has been very positive, and the children have settled wonderfully, showing confidence, enthusiasm, and a real love of learning. I am really looking forward to continuing to work with them as their class teacher from January. Thank you for your support throughout this transition — I hope you all have a lovely, restful break and I look forward to welcoming everyone back after Christmas.
Miss Handley
I would just like to say what a wonderful start to Year One your children have made! They have developed in confidence, and both socially and academically. I have thoroughly enjoyed being the Year One Teacher, with the children bringing daily smiles to adults' faces! I will of course see the children around school in the new year and look forward to hearing from Miss Handley how the children have developed further! Have a great Christmas all and see you all after the break.
Mr Backhouse
Have a super Christmas!
Mr Backhouse, Miss Handley and the Year One team.
