Bahamas Bound 2020 update #3

March 30, 2020

After spending a month in Stuart, Florida we departed on March 10, 2020 and spent one night at Old Port Cove Marina. At the end of our dock was Tiger Woods yacht, Privacy. We never saw Tiger Woods however his yacht is very impressive.

Everyone has heard me say, "We may not be wealthy but we sure are rich"! I would wager to say we are as every bit as rich as Tiger Woods, however we just don't laugh all the way to the Bank like he does!

Tiger Woods 20 million dollar, 155' Yacht in West Palm Beach.

Our boat looks like a dingy compared to his.

The following morning, March 11th we headed to Bahia Mar Marina in Fort Lauderdale. We spent one night there.

We check out the weather conditions.

Tomorrow's forecast is for 2 to 3 foot seas.

The following morning, March 12th, we topped off our fuel tanks and head across the gulf stream of the Atlantic Ocean to Bimini, Bahamas.

We departed Fort Lauderdale at 8:45 AM.

We arrived in Bimini at 3:00 PM.

Some Fun Facts:

Our 2020 adventure actually started on January 1, 2020, the day we departed Jacksonville.

We anchored one night.

We moored for one month each in St. Augustine and Stuart.

We docked at five different marinas.

We arrived in Bimini, Bahamas on March 12, 2020.

We travel a total of 382 nautical miles from Jacksonville to Bimini.

The Fortunate has a capacity of 500 gallons of fuel. Over the course of our travels we took on a total of 525 gallons of diesel fuel, however our tanks were not full when we left Jacksonville. We also ran the generator on occasion while moored. We figured we averaged approximately 1.15 nautical miles (just over 1.3 statute miles) per gallon running at 8 to 10 knots (basically 9 to 12 MPH). We are happy with those figures considering the "Fortunate 2" is weighted down with 3 months of provisions.

Come along with us aboard the "Fortunate 2" as we start our adventures in 2020. We leave Jacksonville, Florida on New Years Day and journey to Bimini, Bahamas!
