Bahamas Bound 2020 update #1

January 5, 2020

We left our home base marina, The Marina at Ortega Landing in Jacksonville, Florida, and our family of fellow boaters on New Years Day. We had to wait until noon to leave due to the tides. The weather was perfect for cruising, sunny but a bit chilly. It was a short three hour trip to our anchorage, which was close to the St. Johns river inlet. Once we set the anchor it was “Toast Time”. At the end of each voyage, once we are secure, it is our tradition to take time to have a cold Corona and make a toast to us. Here we spent the night on the “Hook”.

Peaceful evening on the hook at Sisters Creek.

The next day we left at 8:30 AM so we would arrive at St. Augustine inlet just before high tide. It was a beautiful day out on the Atlantic Ocean during our five hour voyage. The seas were no bigger than two feet, it was 70 and the sun was shining. Sue and I thought about “Youz Guyz” up north, knowing we were definitely experiencing a better day than most. We checked into the municipal marina, took on fuel, and got our mooring assignment.

A beautiful day out on the Atlantic Ocean.

The Ocean made for an enjoyable voyage.

Once secured to our mooring, and after our “Toast Time”, we launched our dingy and headed back into town where we met up with two other couples, who left Ortega the same day as us, for dinner that night. We had a great time with our friends that evening, one for the memory book. When we returned back to our boat we were totally exhausted and hit the sack.

Friday was another beautiful day, 80 and sunshine. We spent the day on the “Lido Deck” watching the activities of the harbor. Today is Saturday, 70 and rain most of the day, a perfect “Swamp Ass” day.

What a marvelous start to 2020 for the “Fortunate 2”. Sue and I hope your start to 2020 has been a great one. So, until the next time….we’ll see ya, bye now!
