Bahamas Bound 2020

The oil has been changed, the provisioning is complete, and the divers have just finished cleaning the bottom of the “Fortunate 2”. We are excited to get our next adventure started. Sue and I love our “Boater Lifestyle” and the freedom it affords us. So sit back and follow along as we are Bahama bound once again.

Our boater lifestyle is a little different than most boaters. We are not boating “SnowBirds” making the seasonal migration from the North to the South and back again, although we do make a hurricane migration, from Florida to the Bahamas and back again. Nor are we interested in doing America’s Great Loop. https://www.greatloop.org/ . We have traveled the ICW (Intercoastal Waterway) from Baltimore to Miami and enjoyed the adventure, however what we found is that you never really get to experience anyone place, city, or town because you are constantly moving everyday or every other day. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very fun adventure and very rewarding to log all the miles traveled, all the ports of call, and the other boaters you have met making the same trip. We are glad to have made those memories.

What we have realized is that we enjoy not only the adventure but also experiencing the local flavor. Instead of just being another passing face, we enjoy becoming friends with the locals and experiencing their culture and lifestyle, tasting their food, exploring their place, city, town, or island on our terms at our speed.

This can’t be done in a day or two, so we plan on spending more time in each of our stops. Our tentative plan is to head out of our home port the first of the year and head to St. Augustine, Florida where we will spend the month of January. From there we will be spending time in Vero Beach and Stuart before heading to the Bahamas where we will spend three months. This will put us at the beginning of the hurricane season and it will be time for us to once again return to our home port of Jacksonville.

We will keep you updated as our adventure unfolds.
