State Allowable Accommodations and Best Practices
A note from State leaders...
"Accommodations should be prioritized according to the student’s English proficiency level. All testing accommodations must be consistent with accommodations used in daily instruction. All selected testing accommodations may only be used during the administration of the selected test and only if utilized in daily classroom instruction.
Language learning is a dynamic process and accommodations will change in relation to language development. Accommodations should be adjusted based on student needs and/or classroom and ESOL teacher observations.
Accommodations with asterisks (*) can also be considered best practices. "

Assessment accommodations should only be provided when they have also been provided within the instructional setting, thus they are categorized as Assessment and Instructional Accommodations. Not all accommodations are allowed in every state mandated test. Close collaboration between the classroom teacher, ESOL teacher, and the site STC is recommended to ensure proper application of accommodations within specific assessments. As a result, only a few accommodations below are linked to additional information. Please reach out to the ESOL teacher in your builiding for more guidance.
