Discussion Based Assessments
Discussion Based Assessments or DBAs are required in all FLVS classes and may be completed over the phone or in Zoom. Sometimes students are nervous about completing a DBA but don't worry! Teachers work to make this an engaging opportunity and to make students feel comfortable discussing what they've learned.
There will be 2 DBAS in each course per semester (with a few elective exceptions that have 1). All required DBAs must be completed/passed to earn course credit. If a DBA has not been completed then a grade of F will be assigned for the course . In most cases, students will complete a DBA prior to receiving a Module Exam password. It's important to complete DBAs in a timely manner so that you can progress at the appropriate pace through the course!
Firebird DBA Tips:
Schedule your DBA ahead. Many teachers use an appointment scheduler (link on their class announcement page) or you could text to set up a time. Many students find it helps with being prepared and less nervous if they have a set day/time.
Taking notes is important to success and it's ok to have your notes with you when you do a DBA!
Think of the DBA as a conversation with your teacher to show that you understand the material. Remember that your teachers want you to succeed in the course! It's ok if you don't know every answer and this is also a great time to ask questions and clarify anything you didn't completely understand.
