Francisco Paiva

LabCom-University of Beira Interior

Full Professor at the University of Beira Interior (ubi.pt), where he has been teaching since 2000. He holds a PhD (Doctor Europaeus) in Fine Arts / Drawing from the University of the Basque Country, Bilbao, a degree in Architecture from the University of Coimbra and a degree in Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. He directed the Multimedia Design course for eight years, created and was the first director of the PhD program in Media Arts at UBI. He was the Scientific Coordinator of the Labcom Arts Research Group (labcom.ubi.pt) for ten years, between 2014 and 2024. Since its foundation in 2023, he has chaired the Installation Committee and is Scientific Coordinator of the iA* Arts Research Unit (iartes.ubi.pt), within which he develops research, creation and critical curation on spatio-temporal processes, intermediality and identity in the Arts (Visual Arts, Media Arts, Design and Architecture). 

He was the Executive Director and coordinator of the Board of Trustees of Covilhã's Candidacy for UNESCO Creative City in Design (covilhacriativa.com), approved in 2021. Civically, since 2008, he has been a member of CooLabora, a social intervention cooperative.
