BIG Ideas Students Develop about Math in Pre-K
In Pre-K, teachers are building the basic foundation of number.
The main focus is numbers 1-10 and being able to:
- Count to 10
- Know that the last number counted tells the number in the set if objects counted
- Know the number before or after a given number (1-10)
- Identify numbers to 10
- Match a number to a set
- Compare sets (using a drawing or tools) as greater than, less than, or equal to.
- Know attributes of objects, such as their color, number of sides, tall, short, light, heavy. Students should also explore sorting objects into groups based on their attributes.
