This unpaid option will be offered on a case by case basis using a similar process to an admin waiver. The form will be linked here.
The form will be signed by the principal and routed to Dr. Pearl and the appropriate CO team including Multilingual Education, Special Education, McKinney Vento, etc.
The program procedures will function similarly to internships. Students, parents and employers will sign the newly devised work based learning agreement. Students will submit their hours to their Work Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator. The WBL will verify that the business has workman’s compensation. The business will be encouraged to cover the student. If no other options exist, the WBL Coordinator will contact the appropriate person in Finance to determine if the student can be covered under FCPS as is currently done in limited situations.
For unique situations, school based opportunities for students who cannot hold down a regular job and who need the completer will be created.
School-based positions can include elementary school support, custodial work, food service, media center support, bulletin boards, shredding, assembling equipment that requires assembly and other duties determined by the school. These tasks should be meaningful and instill requirements of holding a job.
On occasion, when the above tasks are limited, options will be available to supplement the work experience to meet the 135 hours of WBL for students in unique circumstances.
