Unit 5 in the Career & College Prep course is divided into 4 sections. The first section introduces students to moving out on their own and identifying important factors on where to live. This unit includes housing terminology and pros/cons to buying a home vs. renting an apartment. The second section is renting an apartment which includes: understanding rental agreements, being able to identify responsibilities of a tenant and a landlord, how to find the right apartment for your budget and needs, floor plans, and furnishing your apartment. The third section covers roommates, which includes advantages and disadvantages to having a roommate, how to choose a roommate, roommate agreements and budgeting with roommates. The last section details insurance needs for a home or an apartment. Students will understand the importance of having insurance, how to read a policy and explain what is covered under each policy.
