Unit Summary – Livability (Unit may be used to combine transportation and housing units. Please feel free to supplement resources from the other 2 units.)
The Livability unit equips students with essential consumer and financial skills to make informed decisions about transportation and housing, two key components of independent living. Students explore how to select and maintain transportation that meets personal and family needs, comparing buying versus leasing options while applying concepts of financing, credit, interest, and insurance. In the housing segment, students learn how to develop a realistic budget for living independently, evaluate lease agreements, and understand responsibilities related to property management, insurance, and maintenance. Through practical scenarios and decision-making exercises, students will analyze trade-offs in cost, time, flexibility, and reliability to make choices that align with their financial goals and lifestyle needs.
