Every year, Lafayette students are challenged to submit their work to juried shows and experiences. These opportunities allow students to compete for scholarships, gain real-world gallery experience, and have their hard work acknowledged. Some of the shows we regularly encourage our students to enter are:
KyAEA Bluegrass Regional High School Art Competition
Hosted at Eastern Kentucky University, student work from around the Bluegrass Region is submitted for jury and the opportunity to advance to the state level. Students who place in this show are awarded with a certificate, formal ceremony, supplies prize, and gallery exhibition of their work.
KyAEA All State High School Art Competition
Students who place at the regional level advance to the state level for an opportunity to have their work juried.
Living Arts & Science Center Gallery
This local, non-profit organization offers students an opportunity to have their work displayed in their recently renewed gallery space. Student work is juried for cash prizes.
Congressional Art Competition
The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide art competition open to all high school students. The competition is sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize and encourage artistic youth. One winner from the 6th Congressional District is selected to have their work be on display in the U.S. Capitol.
Governor's School for the Arts (GSA)
GSA is a competitive arts program opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience with artistic professionals over the summer. Students submit their work and a jury decides if the student is granted the opportunity to attend this rich experience.
