Richard describes Juice WRLD as his favorite work so far.
I actually remember exactly how it started. I was in my Spanish class junior year and I picked up a clipboard and it had a doodle of Bart Simpson on it and I thought, "I feel like I could draw that better." So I started by drawing that and a bunch of cartoon characters, and people always asked if I traced them. My drawings started to get a little more detailed and over the summer I took my first steps to more realistic drawings, and I had success with that. I decided to take drawing and painting classes my senior year and my interest has taken off from there.
Richard came into my Drawing 1 class in his senior year. Early on he demonstrated a drive to do well. His work ethic combined with his love for art has fostered an exceptionally fast growth in his artwork. Richard asked me if I thought his skill-level indicated that he should pursue art in college. It isn't only his skill level, but his drive in pursuit that proved to me that he should certainly continue his development. Richard now plans to attend Transylvania University with an art scholarship that he worked so hard to earn. In the Fall he said to me, "My only regret from high school is that I didn't start taking art classes sooner." To that I must respond that I wish I had more time with Richard as my student. I wish him all the best in his artistic endeavors.

I definitely see art playing a large role in my future, but I’m not quite sure which way it will take me yet. At the top of my list right now is to become an art teacher, and if I could also sell some art along the way that would be amazing. Honestly though, my real goal is just to move people's emotions with my art. I feel like if I am able to produce something that can invoke just one smile, or tear, or laugh, then that piece of art has served its purpose, and that would make me happy.

There is an artist who I discovered through Instagram who goes by the name of Zulf. He is from the UK and I noticed his work because of it’s unique style, and I message him occasionally with questions I have, and he has always responded to me. Mr. Page and Ms. Detraz have also been extremely inspirational and influential in the way that I create my art, and always make themselves available when I have a question or if I want feedback.
Richard has been the ideal student. He is intrinsically motivated and is constantly trying to improve himself. Proof of his hard work was recognized by Transylvania University with a Fine Arts Scholarship and a commission for the owner of the 2019 Kentucky Derby Champion.
