What Does Catalyst Coaching Require?
Coaching is 15 minutes of a coach observing you while you move about your day and 15 minutes of you and the coach sitting down for feedback. This makes a total of 30 minutes per coaching session.
How Does a Catalyst Coaching Session Look?
A session would look like this: A Catalyst Coach will find you on a day and at a time that you both agree upon. The coach will either sit and observe you or follow you wherever you’re going. Your job is to go about business as usual. The coach will always keep a distance from you so as not to interfere with classroom dynamics. This will go on for the first 15 minutes. At the end of those 15 minutes, feel free to approach the coach for feedback. Feedback will also occur for 15 minutes.
Do you have to be in many places and can't just be in one place for the duration of the coaching session? NO PROBLEM! The coach follows you wherever you go!
Remember that Catalyst is not about being in control of the situation, but always maintaining control of how we react to the situation: maintaining slow speed, calm breathing, just enough, and trying to incorporate nonverbals (and don't forget to smile to allow oxygen to reach all parts of your brain, thus allowing your brain to send calming hormones throughout your body). Coaches will NOT judge you for what your students do and definitely WILL NOT judge you at all! Coaches are looking to see what skills you are already doing (you’d be surprised how much you do already and just don’t realize it!).
