What is International & Multilingual Support?
International & Multilingual Support is offered by Dr. Mann. If you’re new to the US, the liberal arts, or English isn’t one of your first languages, Dr. Mann can help you build the knowledge and skills you need to succeed at F&M.
Is International & Multilingual support right for me?
If you’re an international student (multilingual or not!) or a multilingual student (international or not!) you’re welcome to meet with Dr. Mann. Most often, IMS appointments deal with language, writing, US academics & culture, or adjustment to F&M, but Dr. Mann can also help you with interpreting professors’ feedback, understanding assignment requirements, practicing conversational skills, and more.
What should I expect in an International & Multilingual support meeting?
Dr. Mann will ask about your concerns and questions, and then together, you will make a plan for how to use the appointment based on your priorities and goals. For example, if you’re concerned about grammar in a paper, you’ll read through it together, identify any mistakes or awkward sentences, and work on editing and revising with Dr. Mann’s support. Or, if you’re struggling with a reading that requires a lot of background knowledge about US history and culture, you’ll go through the confusing parts and discuss the information you need. Each appointment is tailored to your specific situation.
