FAMs–or First-Year Advising Mentors– introduce new students to the many resources available at F&M, talk about the deep questions of life, and help students navigate their new academic culture. They are experts in explaining how to add or drop a class, use CANVAS, and choose that perfect schedule. They’re geniuses at registration tricks! But, most importantly, FAMs listen to your story and help you craft an academic path tailored to your needs.
A FAM is the right support for you if you are confused about basic academic requirements (distribution requirements, P/NP policy, how to register for classes, how to add/drop, studying abroad, internships for credit, different kinds of majors, etc.) However, beyond providing practical support, the FAMs are trained to talk through a variety of issues about college, because, as we all know, academic confusion & life confusion can be very similar.
You & your FAM might grab lunch at Blue Line to talk over intended majors; or you might meet at a College House with your laptops to search for open classes. Whatever your need, a FAM will meet you informally and be willing to talk.
