Twitter is a social media website that was formed on July 15, 2006. The main feature is messaging, or tweeting that can be in hashtags and can be re-tweeted back to people. Jack Dorsey is the CEO of Twitter.

Twitter is important because it lets people talk to each other more directly through hashtags.Twitter solved the problem that Myspace and Facebook had of being able to talk to someone by including them in things. Jack Dorsey and the members at Odeo, all helped people to include and interact with people that they wanted to know.

History

• Originates from a “daylong brainstorming session” held by board members of Odeo(pod-casting company)
• Original project code name, twttr, was chosen due to the domain twitter.com already being used
• Domain was eventually purchased by Odeo and twttr became Twitter
