Device: Distance moved & Sleep Assay

Objective: Each tank (Fig. A) is filled with water and contains one zebrafish. Infrared lights and an infrared camera positioned above the tanks capture the behavior of the zebrafish over a 24-hour period. Filmed images are analyzed using Ethovision X (Noldus) and a custom statistical analysis software programmed in R (Fig. B).

The center of gravity of the fish is tracked to calculate the distance moved, which provides insights into activity levels. Additionally, sleep patterns are determined by defining periods of inactivity over a specified duration as sleep. This approach allows for the measurement of both activity and sleep parameters in zebrafish.
