Device: Oxygen consumption rate measurement system
Objective: Here's the refined explanation for the oxygen consumption measurement system: Oxygen Consumption Measurement System The amount of oxygen consumption can be used to measure the metabolic rate. This system is designed for measuring the oxygen consumption rate (OCR) of zebrafish. Zebrafish are placed individually in experimental tanks filled with system water. Oxygen consumption data for each tank are acquired using optical dissolved-oxygen sensors, while distance moved data are collected with a video camera placed in front of the experimental tanks. A total series of data (60 minutes) of oxygen consumption and distance moved are collected for each zebrafish (Fig. A, B).
The Noldus EthoVision video tracking system is used to analyze the video data to collect distance moved data. Oxygen consumption is known to be affected by the intensity of movement (Børsheim and Bahr, 2003; Lewis et al., 1983). Therefore, we define oxygen consumption per unit of body mass with movement less than 2 cm/s (the average velocity of adult zebrafish) as the metabolic rate, which serves as an approximation for the routine metabolic rate.
