September 19th-23rd
Weekly Update 9/19-9/23:
Dates to remember:
October 13th: picture day!
October 28th: No school!
September 26th: fire prevention presentation for FOURTH grade students.
This week’s specials look like:
Monday: C- movement and gym
Tuesday: A- drama
Wednesday: B- music (at 8:30) **short day, dismissal at 2:00!**
Thursday: C- movement and gym
Friday: A- drama
It would be a good idea to have an extra pair of socks at school for gym days, especially during the warmer months as kids tend to wear sandals, crocs, etc… Gym shoes can be left in their locker, if they have an extra pair of shoes specifically for gym.
ELA-
This trimester will focus on journaling and using historic events in their writing. Students will also participate in book clubs in which they will work on reading strategies such as summarizing, predicting, connecting, and questioning. Then we will move into more complex reading strategies such as story elements, story mapping, conflict, theme, author’s purpose, visualization, and dialogue. We will have a whole class book that they practice their reading strategies with. They will also be sent home with their reading notebook to practice their reading strategies for their book club. Each week the groups will meet with each other and should have their reading notebook FINISHED and AT SCHOOL on the day of their book club meeting.
PBL-
This week we will look at the daily life and different roles of people in the colonies.
With our essential question being, “How can we work together for a common purpose?”, we are going to come up with some project ideas for making E’tude a better place.
4th grade math:
This week of school 4th graders will be learning about finding factors of a number, as well as being able to identify prime and composite numbers.
5th grade math:
students will be working with volume, understanding that they need to measure and multiply the length, width, and base. 4th graders will be continuing with multiplication next week.
We had a handful of kids out sick last week and this week with fevers and stomach bugs. Please make sure you do not send your child to school unless they are fever free (without meds for 24 hours) and have not thrown up in the last 24 hours. If you are not sure when to keep your child at home you can CLICK HERE to view the district’s flier of information.
We will be heading to the Mead Public Library frequently throughout the school year. Our class will ride the city bus from E’tude to downtown, and back. Masks MUST be worn on all city buses. At the library students will have the opportunity to check out books of their choice or that might go along with our units of study. I do have one student that doesn’t have their permission slip yet. Once we have that we will take our first trip there!
I will email and update when I know the date. Bring your library cards in (if you have one).
