A heads up for the 4th grade parents:
Usually on COL day we have a little party afterward for the 5th graders and their parents. It is tradition that the 4th graders provide snacks for the party. A sign sheet will be coming soon to indicate what you might be willing to bring.

Let’s save lives on Friday, May 12, 2023!
We are TWO DAYS AWAY from our blood drive and we need YOU! Each pint of blood we collect can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. What a great way to pay it forward and make an impact on people in our community and across the country.
CURRENTLY, WE NEED 10 MORE DONORS TO MEET OUR GOAL!!
We look forward to signing you up! There are a few ways to do that. Choose ONE of the following:
1. Contact Molly at mking@etudegroup.org.
2. Write your name in the desired time slot in this Google Doc: Blood Drive Donation Schedule
3. Find our Blood Drive at American Red Cross, using the zip code: 53081
WE ALSO ACCEPT WALK-INS!
No need to know your blood type to donate! 17+ can donate. If you are 16, you can donate with parent permission. Complete this form, get it signed and bring it with you when you donate.
It’s not every day that we do something that has such a lifesaving impact. Now is the time and we need your help. I’ll be looking forward to seeing you at the blood drive.

Writing:
Students are working on writing a "choose your own adventure" story set during The Industrial Revolution/Civil War time.
Timeline for that:
Monday, May 8th - rough draft #1 due, and peer edit in class
Tuesday, May 9th - Continue peer edit, and finish rough draft if not complete
Wednesday, May 10th - Self-edit, and at home adult feedback
Thursday, May 11th and Friday, May 12th - Make edits based on feedback and begin final draft.
Art:
Students should have a drawing based on "American Gothic" for each of the 4 turning points from this trimester.
The Industrial Revolution
The Civil War
The Great Depression
The Civil Rights Movement
In each drawing there should be 2 people, one of them holding an item that would indicate the time period, as well as a background that shows the time period as well.
PBL:
4/5
This trimester we will look at some pivotal turning points in American history.
Those turning points are:
The Industrial Revolution
The Civil War
The Great Depression
The Civil Rights Movement
We will start out with the Industrial Revolution and look into how it helped shape America in terms of communication, transportation, and production.
Reading:
We are looking to have students read 2 books this trimester, in their reading group. We will start with books that are set during the first of the 3 turning points. The second book will be set during The Civil Rights Movement.
We are also going to ask students to dig a bit deeper when it comes to understanding these texts. To do this, during book clubs, we will have students learn and use new reading strategies such as:
comparing and contrasting
inferencing
providing evidence
descriptive language
theme
These are different reading strategies than what we have been doing in the past so students will need a lot of support and guidance when it comes to their book club work.
