Friday, April 28th: Etude movie night
The fifth graders are going to be hosting a movie night to fundraise for their class field trip. On April 28th, at 5:00 they will be showing the movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (PG) in the Pigeon River gymnasium for any and all students/families. We are asking for a $1 donation that would go towards our class trip per person. Also, we will be selling drinks, popcorn, and desserts on that day as well!
You are free to bring blankets, chairs, or anything else that might make you more comfortable on the day! All students should be supervised by an adult.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr., Scharenbroch at nscharenbroch@etudegroup.org

This trimester we will look at some pivotal turning points in American history.
Those turning points are:
The Industrial Revolution
The Civil War
The Great Depression
The Civil Rights Movement
We will start out with the Industrial Revolution and look into how it helped shape America in terms of communication, transportation, and production.
Reading:
We are looking to have students read 2 books this trimester, in their reading group. We will start with books that are set during the first of the 3 turning points. The second book will be set during The Civil Rights Movement.
We are also going to ask students to dig a bit deeper when it comes to understanding these texts. To do this, during book clubs, we will have students learn and use new reading strategies such as:
comparing and contrasting
inferencing
providing evidence
descriptive language
theme
These are different reading strategies than what we have been doing in the past so students will need a lot of support and guidance when it comes to their book club work.
Writing:
This trimester the students will write a "choose your own adventure" type of story. They will create a character and that character will go through a series of events where they must make a choice. In the end, there will be 4 different possible endings for their stories.
