This week's Module was led by Traci Bondi who introduced us to factors to consider, including volume pricing, when considering the purchase and use of technology in mass quantities for a school district. Additionally, Traci talked about the movement for districts to become BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Her presentation may be seen below:
Traci shared about her experience working with technology, as well as factors and considerations when putting together a plan for implementing a district-wide use of technology, such as chromebooks. She provided about 30 minutes of "reading and browsing" time for us to look through her document and links. Following this, we were asked to create a group slide-deck covering aspects of the information we read and how that information might be used by an IT department to establish a plan for launching 5000 Chromebooks for a school district within a 6-week time-frame. Below is the presentation the group created:
Reflection
Well, chalk this up in the books to feeling the most overwhelmed during one of our course workshops. I really wasn't sure what I expected in a session called "Implementation and Volume Pricing"; I know it was nothing like what I just sat through. Complete torture (no offense!). I'm really feeling nice and comfy in my new tech-knowledge and so happy with all the "toys" I'm discovering along the way, but this was way beyond my level of understanding to really even be able to process what I was reading and being asked to do.
I love the level of expertise and passion that Traci has for this area, but I could have told her from the beginning that my wee-little brain would quite literally explode if I needed to actually understand what she was talking about. (I think there's still some brain matter on my keyboard!!).
Aside from that, as usual, I muscled through (something I'm always asking of my students) and manged to keep most of my brain cells from hitting the ceiling. I also managed to find an access point by creating a slide that allowed for some relevant information for Staff training and push out to the classrooms on my Professional Development slide.
Can I just state for the record, "I LOVE MY IT DEPARTMENT!!!!!"
