MYSTERY INGREDIENT: Interactive Whiteboard
Initially, I was a bit stumped when given my "mystery ingredient"; now I know a little about what it might feel like as a student who is given a task and don't feel that they know how to complete it. IWB's have been around for a while; I've seen them in my children's classrooms during their Elementary years. I even worked both as an Instructional Aide and as a Kindergarten teacher my first year out of school; both classrooms were installed with a Smart Board. Unfortunately, I did not use either due in part to both lack of training; and, lack of reliability of the equipment. Therefore, coming in to this assignment, I was, as I mentioned, stumped. However, with a little research in the module's tools and links, along with a bit of my own digging, I discovered that this is quite a useful "ingredient" to virtually any type of lesson. I think it was a bit easier to make connections to my classroom, after having just completed the Web 2.0 tools module where I plunged in to Flipgrid and there was my "ah-ha" moment! I will use the IWB in conjunctions with my Hyperdoc activities, including one the utilized Flipgrid. My lesson shows a culmination of IWB and Web 2.0 tools designed to help my students grow a deeper understanding about their Science Key Terms for an upcoming unit.
After this lesson, students will have a deeper understanding of Key Terms as they work to complete a Scavenger Hunt, Graphic Slides, play games on Quizlet.com; and show what they know with student-recorded FlipGrid definitions combined with a Google Form. In the future, as a play a bit more with Augmented Reality (AR) tools like Aurasma, I will use pictures to create their Scavenger Hunt; students will use an app from their device to scan a picture and learn about it. Then, for additional assessment I would like to utilize VoiceThread to have students say and record what they know about a particular image.
This lesson observes the SAMR model through the Augmentation using tech as a substitute to a verbal presentation. I am so excited to push these ideas out to my students who, by the way, are so much better at this stuff than I am!!!
