11/23/17: I've been thinking about and researching some possibilities for Project ideas and I keep coming back to developing some sort of community for students, parents, and educators. I attended the recent CMC Math Conference in Palm Springs and, while attending Tracy Johnston Zager's workshop, she talked about an acronym: D.R.E.A.M. I LOVE acronyms!! I want to create a D.R.E.A.M. Team using some format such as: PLAY:DATE, Google Hangouts, Google Classroom, FlipGrid, etc. where collaborators may get together to: DRop Everything And Math ! I would love to have students helping other students; parents chatting with other parents; and, educators sharing ideas for technology and math integration for empowering our learners.
I like the idea and think that, although it would be huge undertaking, it would also prove to be a huge accomplishment. I say "Go for it!" and submit your "work in progress" perhaps? Good Luck!
Hello All! Well, I finally made it here. I struggle with navigating around new platforms and it will take me a bit to get comfortable here so forgive me for being "late for class".
I am a 50 y.o. mother of 3 daughters: Megan (19), Claudia (14), and Paige (13); and, Married to my husband, David, of 20 years. My husband and I met over the phone through a mutual friend when I was living in San Antonio, TX and he was living in Malaysia. After talking on the phone each night for a month, we met in person and spent 1 week getting to know each other. 2 months after that I quit my job and moved to Malaysia where he was working as a Technical Director for a manufacturing company based out of U.S. We were married 2 years later and lived there another 2 more years before repatriating back to the states. Although our first daughter was born in Malaysia, she does not have dual-citizenship. A few years later, daughter #2 and #3 arrived back-to-back; and, following a long hiatus as a stay-at-home-mom, I decided to get myself to school at the age of 40. I attended Western Governor's University's (WGU) online blended Bachelor's/Teacher Credential program; and, 6 years later, graduated and was immediately hired at my local school district in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.
I'm a 3rd year, 6th grade middle school teacher of Math and Science with a STEAM Elective. I am extraordinarily happy with my current post and am super excited to begin this program and see the growth and development it's completion will provide.
I'm with you Lindsay, History was not my favorite subject in school and I didn't even bother with homework so I never remembered anything about it. It wasn't until I had to take history to earn my degree (as well as much life knowledge) that I began to understand it's importance and make personal connections. I know (and I'm sure you as well) that that's the KEY! Providing experiences that allow students to make these connections. It's all about perspective for sure!
