Graduation Requirements

In order to earn a high school diploma from the East Side Union High School district, a student must pass 220 credits in the areas shown below:

Subject Requirements Credits

English Students must pass: 40

• 4 years of English

Social Science Students must pass: 30

• 1 year of World History

• 1 year of U.S. History

• 1 semester of American Government

• 1 semester of Economics

Mathematics Students must pass: 20

• Integrated Math I or Geometry*

• Integrated Math II or Algebra 1 (or higher)

Science Student must pass: 20

• 1 year of biological science

• 1 year of physical science

Fine Art or World Language Student must pass 1 year course of either a 10
Fine Arts or World Language

Physical Education Student must pass 2 years of Physical Education 20

(1 year must be taken in G.9)

Electives Student must pass elective courses chosen from the following ares: 80

Art, Business, Home Economics, Careers and Technology Education,
English, World Language, Math, Music, Industrial Technology
Education, PE, Reading, Science, Social Science, Safety Education,
and Work Experience/SVCTE

Total Credits Required for Graduation   220

*Beginning with the Class of 2029, students must pass Geometry in order to meet ESUHSD graduation requirements. Any Geometry course taken in 7th or 8th grade must be UC/CSU approved for A-G eligibility, but cannot be used to meet ESUHSD graduation requirements.
