Have an Action Plan in place
Once your PBIS Leadership, or Tier 1 team, is established, scheduling and designing meetings is the next step towards establishing the framework for implementing PBIS with fidelity. This first step in this process is to create an action plans in order to build agendas for future team meetings.
"Action plans function as the agreed upon template for implementation of evidence- based practices and include prioritized need, selection and alignment of evidence-based practices, high fidelity and local implementation capacity, and data-based decision." (PBIS Implementation Blueprint - Part 1)
Initial action plans can be based upon TFI results and guide PBIS Leadership team actions. As implementation progresses other data sources, such at Office Discipline Referrals (ODRs), Self-Assessment Survey (SAS), or the School-wide Evaluation Tool (SET), can be incorporated into action plans for continued improvement of implementation.
Time is one of the most scarce rescources in education, so it is essential that meetings be efficient, but also effective. Having regular meetings scheduled with set agendas not only honors team members' time, but also ensures the work towards implementation is continuious.
"Team meeting frequency will (also) vary somewhat as you begin your work and are in the preparation phase and then move to implementing and finally sustaining your practices. During initial development or preparation, it is important for the SW-PBS Leadership Team to meet frequently. At a minimum, teams should meet once per month, with additional meetings scheduled as needed to achieve your goals and planning needs." (Tier 1 Workbook)
These practices are some of the elements that can be recorded on the Team Initiated Problem Solving (TIPS) form. The TIPS form is also an effective way to track progress towards your action plan goals and also provides an opportunity for team members to evaulate each meeting, insuring that you honor the core elements of feature 1.1 of the TFI.
