Regularly present school-wide data to staff (perferably monthly)
Incorporate continued professional development for Tier 1 practices of PBIS
Annual have staff review and update Tier 1 practices of PBIS, including:
The core of Feature 1.10 is communication. And just like professional development, communication surrounding PBIS needs to be consistent. It is important that school-wide data is tracked (see Feature 1.12) and regularly presented to staff. Often this is done at a monthly staff meeting, where the same data measurements are tracked in order to observe progress towards goals set in the school's action plans.
Some schools use this opportunity to also share decisions made by the Tier 1 team's data dig (see Feature 1.13), especially if some action is neeeded by the whole staff to enact the plan based on the precise problem statement.
Similarly, it is essential that PBIS professional development be on-going , as noted in Feature 1.7. Just like reviewing data, some districts make PBIS professional development a part of any and all staff meetings. Often topics that staff have already been trained on are reviewed in order to maintain a calibration of practices and ensure fidelity of implementation.
Annual audits of Tier 1 elements are also necessary to insure that they continue to be properly aligned to the school's data and identified needs , as well as the school's culture. This can be done either by the entire staff or the PBIS Leadership Team.
Elements that are often reviewed annually include:
Each element is linked to resources to assist in accurately auditing the element.
All of this contributes to the inclusion of PBIS into a staff's culture. The video on this page shows a staff that not only incorporates PBIS into their culture, but also embraces and is enthusatic about it. It also shows that "staff" includes more than just teachers. ALL school staff should be included in PBIS practices! Doing so not only ensures consistency for how staff interacts with students, regardless of who they are working with, but also ensures that PBIS is being fully implemented with fidelity school-wide.
