Fidelity data helps PBIS Leadership Teams not only identify the degree to which PBIS is being fully implemented, it also assists in the creation of action plans to increase implementation as well a progress monitoring tool for the PBIS framework.
The Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) surveys PBIS implementation and is completed by the PBIS Leadership teams and has become the standard to measure PBIS implementation of all 3 tiers, althought teams can select which tiers to analyze to meet their current implementation status. Some teams complete the TFI multiple times a year to track implementation progress, and others complete it annually in the spring to identify areas for improvement of implementation.
The Self Assessment Survey (SAS) surveys the entire school staff and examines the status and need for improvement of four behavior support systems:
school-wide discipline systems
non-classroom management systems (e.g., cafeteria, hallway, playground
classroom management systems
systems for individual students engaging in chronic problem behaviors
Because the SAS includes the opinion of all staff and allows them to identify "Priority for Improvement" rating for each element, it is a good gauge of staff's perception and buy-in of PBIS. Just like the TFI, The SAS is usually given in the spring so PBIS Leadership teams can include the results into the PBIS action plan for the next year.
There are other survey tools schools can use, such as a School-wide Evaluation Tool (SET) or School Safety Survey (SSS) to measure implementation and identify areas for improvement, but schools can also use student behavior and performance data as a target in their PBIS action plans. This data can include:
Office Discipline Referral (ODR) Data
In-school suspensions (ISS) and Out of school suspensions (OSS);
Absences and Tardies;
Academic Data, such as failures
Common Formative Assessments or Benchmark Assessments
