About
Our History
We are the Keller Courier. Our story began in March 2021 when Charles Rabinowitz and Arjun Phatak started a newspaper. It was called the 5th Grade Times. Back then, there was a limited number of copies that had to be returned to the authors when you were done reading it. It was published during recess, so some things may have went wrong. After 4 months and 14 issues, Charles and Arjun vowed to return in 6th grade. The 5th Grade Times was disestablished following the end of the school year.
It wasn't until September 2021 where the discussion of a newspaper started up again. The planned 5th Grade Times successor, the 6th Grade Post, was nearly (officially) established. However, Charles discovered that you can create clubs within his new school, Helen Keller Middle School. He, excitedly, went to Arjun to establish a so-called Newspaper Club.
After clobbering together 20 signatures (with their friend Angelina), Charles and Arjun went to their homeroom teacher and 6th Grade Integrated Language Arts teacher, Jennifer Burke. They presented the idea, which was interesting to Burke, who thus decided to stick with the idea.
The new Newspaper Club of Helen Keller Middle School had its first meeting on October 12, 2021. While work on issue 1 of the Keller Courier didn't commence until the 3rd meeting, the club was still enjoyed by its members, and continues to be enjoyed to this day!
