Primary 4A Class Blog - February 2023

with Miss Guy and Miss Guthrie

What a fabulous start to February we have had! P4a sang beautifully when performing the Jeely Piece song at our tartan assesmbly. If Simon Cowell had been there, we'd have got the golden buzzer for sure! We recited The Elephant by JK Annand with wonderful actions and expression.

RME

P4a have been hard at work learning about the Christian Festival of Lent, Shrove Tuesday and ash Wednesday. We used our research and team work skills to research and create a fact file all about it.

Mindfulness

We have been learning all about the benefits of mindfulness on our mental health. P4a have learned a range of fun deep breathing activities, created calm jars, learned about thought clouds and got creative during some mindful colouring.

If you feel like doing some deep breathing at home have a look at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTzXFPh6CPI

PE

During PE, we have been practising our dribbling, tackling and shooting skills within basketball and football. Thankfully we have many football experts within the class who have been incredible at sharing their expertise with their peers!

Human body

We have been learning all about skeletons - the names of different bones and why we all need a skeleton. We loved learning about the digestive system and researching the different organs of the human body.

Maths

We have been exploring symmetry in everyday objects, and patterns which have 1 or 2 lines of symmetry. We have had a go at completing symmetrical patterns with 1 and 2 lines of symmetry, and have even tried to create our own symmetrical patterns.

We have also looked at perimeter and how and why we might need to measure this. We have used various resources to do this, such as rulers, cubes and thread. We have been able to measure the perimeter of complex shapes and have even created our own for our peers to measure.

Literacy

This month we have been writing newspaper articles. We've learned about the different features of newspapers such as headings, images, key information and alliteration.

In reading we have been looking at making inferences and finding context clues within the text.

Construction

P4a are very eager to share their construction creations with their families. Have a look to see all we've been busy building.

Class novel

We have begun reading "The Creakers" by Tom Fletcher as a class and we are hooked already! We have really enjoyed discussing the characters and making inferences about what we think might happen next.

Coming up next in P4a...

In PE, we will be getting creative and  focussing on Dance. PE days are every Wednesday and Thursday. PE kits can be left in school.

In Science, we will be learning about plants and living things as well as the process of dissolving.

Within RME, we will be learning about the Muslim festivals of Ramadan and Eid.
