Primary 4A Class Blog - December 22

Miss Guy and Miss Guthrie

Welcome back!

Welcome back to another instalment of P4A's blog! We have had another great month of learning, exploring new concepts and completing new challenges. We have enjoyed getting in to the Christmas spirit and hope you like seeing what we have been up to. 😊

Literacy Learning

This month we have particularly focused on improving our talking and listening skills using our interfaith week home learning presentations. When presenting we tried to make sure that we spoke loudly and clearly, while also looking at the audience. When listening, we tried to be a great audience by looking at the presenter and giving them feedback to tell them what we thought they did really well. We learned so many facts about different world religions and were very impressed by the variety of ways everyone chose to present their findings!

In our writing we have also looked at instructional writing - we have created a variety of different instructional texts and have been able to include key elements like ingredients, equipment and methods!

Numeracy Learning

We have explored lots of different mathematical concepts over the past few weeks!

One of the things we have learned is how to measure capacity in millilitres and litres using jugs of different sizes. When measuring capacity we learned how important it is to look at the jug at eye level to make sure you don't have too much or too little liquid. We also looked at how to calculate the value of each segment before experimenting with both reading measurements and pouring liquid into a jug to measure for ourselves.

We also looked at how to identify angles and how to estimate their size. We began by looking at our environment and looking for different angles in everyday objects, before going on to explore how many degrees are in each type of angle and estimating the size of the angles around us. We then made our own objects and labelled the angles we had created!

As well as that, we have also explored times tables, creating our own games to help us memorise more tricky ones, how to measure in millimetres, centimetres and metres and then convert those measurements, symmetry, and how to multiply and divide large numbers - we have been very busy!

Other Curricular Areas

This month we have started exploring engineering and asking ourselves, "If you were an engineer, what would you do?" We have looked at what it means to be an engineer and what kind of things they do in their job. We have started to look for problems we can see in the world and, after the Christmas holidays, will explore different solutions to these problems before designing a product to fix it!

On Wednesday 14th Dec we also had our Christmas party! We had so much fun dancing, playing party games and getting in the Christmas spirit!

Mr Mistletoe

We have also had a special guest with us for December - Mr Mistletoe! Mr Mistletoe has been causing chaos in the classroom and giving us a laugh each morning! Have a look through the photos to see what he has been up to. 😊
