P3 had a great (and thankfully dry) day out at the Kelpies on Thursday.
Have a look at some of the pictures from the trip.
Elena - We were visiting the Kelpies and had a lot of fun. We went inside the Kelpies and then went to the park. It was lots of fun.
P3 were continuing their learning about forces. This week we were learning about magnetic forces.
We learned magnetic forces are non contact forces, magnets have a north and south pole and explored which materials are magnetic and which are not. We were surprised that not all metals are magnetic!
We also discovered what happens when like poles of a magnet are put next to each other.
On Friday P3.1 had there well deserved wing reward.
We were decorating biscuits and watched a film before heading out to enjoy the sunny weather.
This week we were exploring forces. We made predictions on what a force can do to an object and then investigated forces in experiments. We used the words pushing, pulling, stretching, squashing and twisting to describe forces.
P3 took another opportunity to go outside with our learning.
This week we were plating seedlings to take home and look after.
First, we had to fill a tray with compost. Then we carefully took one of each seedling to placed in into a hole in the compost. There was two varieties of violas, lettuce, aster, marigold and livigstone daisy. Finally we gave them a water.
(When they are a bit bigger and have roots coming out the bottom on the tray, that would be a good time to move them into a bigger pot/basket/container. Remember to keep the compost watered.)
We took the opportunity to take our spelling outside in the glorious sunshine.
Using beanbags, skipping ropes and tennis balls, the children took part in bounce and spell, skip spelling and throw and spell.
This week, we built the shaduf we started last week.
We used clay to hold the pieces of wood in place then attached a bucket on a string.
Next, we took our shadufs outside to test them.
They were successful, though we all agreed that the clay was a bit tricky to use and maybe Playdoh would be better.
