C impressed her class with an AABB pattern.
J originally had an AB pattern and was challenged to turn it into an ABC pattern. She successfully completed the challenge!
J - "Mrs Davis - look! ABCABC, pine cone, stone, leaf, pine cone, stone, leaf!"
For Maths Week Scotland, we took our learning outdoors and used natural objects to explore patterns in nature.
E made two patterns, with one exploring different shapes and sizes of leaves too! Math really is all around us. 📏
We had a special visitor from our local community today in P1! We learned all about our local Movie Cafe and what it’s like working in Eaglesham, plus asked lots of great questions.
Skills developed: coin recognition, talking and listening, counting and cooperative play
This week in Drawing Club, we explored the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. 🦋 We explored various activities linked to the story. This week we introduced a Red Target Task. This is an independent task that has to be completed by the end of the day! We show Mrs Davis we have completed it by putting a sticker next to our name on the target boards. Our red task here was to use our creative skills to make a caterpillar. Some of us even challenged ourselves to make it in the shape of a 'c' for caterpillar.
For our Blue Task, we had to draw and count the foods from the story.
We have lots of opportunities for mark making around the classroom! A popular area is the Message Centre. In the past week, pupils have made lists, plans, birthday cards, characters and secret symbols. There are felt pens, gels pens, pencils and crayons available but some pupils choose to use their own!
This week, we explored Julia Donaldson's story A Squash and a Squeeze. Using our imagination we rewrote the ending, where all the animals that crowded the house went missing! Take a look at the 'MISSING' posters we made for the animals and see how we used our knowledge of some letters, sounds and tricky words to build sentences.
In PE, we are developing movement skills through object control. This week, we worked in teams on a task that involved using eye-hand coordination to pass beanbags between hands as quickly as possible!
This week, we’ve introduced a Blue Target Task! This is an activity linked to Numeracy & Mathematics that pupils need to complete on their own by the end of the day. To show they’ve finished, they’ll place a sticker next to their name on a checklist. We’re building both our independence and our numeracy skills with this new challenge.
Our first target task - number formation!
Primary 1 have been developing their fine motor skills during morning soft starts through a variety of activities such as cutting, sorting objects with tweezers and making marks at our Message Centre. We are aiming to strengthen our finger muscles and prepare for writing!
