Brandon (our Active Schools coordinator) joined us at the pitch to teach us some new skills in Handball. We used our hands to throw the ball into the goal of the opposing team and had a lot of fun doing it.
We are focusing on recounts for a non-fiction writing block this term. We are recounting events like our weekend news, school trips and activities in school.
We know to write in past tense and are using story maps to support us with structuring our writing, using common words and completing writing independently.
We are exploring capacity using non-standard units of measure, with some exposure to standard units of measure also.
Capacity is the amount something can hold.
You can use the words 'full', 'half full' and 'empty' to describe capacity.
If a cup, box, or even a bath, can't hold any more of something, then it is at 'full capacity'.
We've started the week dancing with Karen and Jenna! We had so much fun learning hip hop tricks and plan to write a recount of our experience in our writing jotters this week.
Some quick outdoor challenges before snack time started - can you make a 2D shape with 3 sides? Can you make a 2D shape with 4 vertices (corners)? You've guessed it - we are beginning to talk about shapes and their properties!
Test us at home!
🟦 2D Shapes
Can you find and name 5 different 2D shapes around the house? What are their properties (sides, corners)?
Which 2D shape has no corners? Can you draw it?
What’s the difference between a square and a rectangle?
Can you find something in your home that’s a triangle? What makes it a triangle?
How many sides does a hexagon have? Can you draw one?
🟪 3D Shapes
Can you spot 3D shapes in your kitchen? (e.g., a cylinder like a can of beans!)
What’s the difference between a cube and a cuboid?
Which 3D shape rolls? Which ones don’t? Why do you think that is?
How many faces does a sphere have? What about a cone?
Can you build a 3D shape using blocks, LEGO, or boxes and name its faces, edges, and vertices?
What do you see?
What do you notice?
What's your thinking? What's your plan?
Share your strategy if you can!
