Learning Intention:
To explore ways to design and construct models.
Success Criteria:
Β I can explore different ways to solve the problem.
Β I can construct a model of my solution.
Design Brief:
Imagine you are an architect! Your job is to build a strong house for the Three Little Pigs so the Big Bad Wolf cannot blow it down!
Can you design and build a house using different materials? It should be strong and stable so it wonβt fall over when tested!
Mr Crawford visited to share insights about his career in STEM! The pupils observed and discussed his photographs from a trip to the rainforest! We were amazed to see the animals and plants that Mr Crawford encountered throughout his trip. We were given magnifying glasses to investigate patterns on shells and flowers, as an insight into some of the work Mr Crawford does in his job in STEM. A big thank you to Mr Crawford!
We went to the Innovation Station to engage in a range of STEM activities with Mrs Martin. These included Coderpillars, BeeBots, Marble Runs, Coding on iPads, Junk Modelling with Makedo, and building with Kapla. The activities helped develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, coding, engineering, and design.Β
Mr Mills visited to share insights about his career in STEM! As a chemical engineer, he explained how he applies Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering in his work. The pupils assisted with an experiment involving baking soda, vinegar, and a balloon, exploring chemical reactions. A big thank you to Mr Mills!Β
We loved seeing June again, listening to stories and singing songs connected to our learning. We were excited to bring back fiction and non-fiction books to explore Space even more! ππΒ
Exploring Numbers 11-20 Outdoors! ββοΈ Primary 1 took their numeracy learning outside, practising writing numbers, counting and problem solving in the fresh air!Β
Primary 1 explored the Sun! π We safely viewed it through solar eclipse goggles and used our inspiration to create beautiful artwork with paint squidging and blending! π¨β¨Β
We created space-themed artwork using oil pastels on black paper, exploring our own ideas and creativity. Mrs Davis encouraged us to express what we think of when we imagine space. Now, we're proudly displaying our workβit's not about showing off, but they do look amazing!Β
In January 2025, we introduced Hinge Point questioning in P1.1. During lessons, we pause to ask 3-5 key questions using mini whiteboards or Plickers cards. This helps Mrs Davis quickly assess if we are confident to move on or need more support. Here, we're using Hinge Point questions to check our understanding of money.Β
In Health and Wellbeing, we are focusing on friendships. As we move through our Primary 1 journey together, it is important to learn how to build and maintain positive relationships.Β Β
After exploring themes of friendships, inclusion and supporting others, we were challenged to act out a situation where a friend needed some help.Β
As well as discussion around important topics, we had a great laugh!Β
Pupils come in to class, order their lunch and sit down to their morning tasks. This morning, we were instructed to write the numbers 11-20 and test a buddy on what number comes before/after and inbetween.Β
Our P7 buddies joined us for a paired reading session in our P1 learning space.Β
