Joan Armatrading is famous for being the first black british female singer/songwriter.
Joan Armatrading was born in 9th December 1950.
Joan Armatrading started her career by playing small sets of her own music at local clubs as a teenager.
In 1980 Joan Armatrading won a Grammy award for Best female rock vocal performance also she won the same in 1983. Also in both 1987 and 1996 she won the Best British female solo artist.
We think that she is a great role model for young black children who look up to her and want to be singers too.
