This studio course is a combination of the following topics / concepts: world geography; world cultures; historical significance of art; creating art and craft projects. Students will learn about how to apply art history to their own artwork using various media. Units include: ceramics, weaving, batik, jewelry, papier mache. Each unit has geographical, cultural and art historical connections that provide exploration and inspiration for the design of the project.

This course is an exploration of various sculptural media, including ceramics, found objects, wire plaster, and cardboard. Students will explore structural, compositional and preferred uses for materials. Additionally, students will learn how sculpture has evolved through the years and modern usage. Sculpture is a hands-on class that provides students with not only a creative outlet, but a way to reflect on personal growth in the world of art.

This course takes an in-depth exploration of the various printmaking media, including linocut, intaglio, monotype printing, and screen-printing. Printmaking combines drawing skills with color theory, technical skills, and graphic design to create unique pieces of art. Students will learn about how printmaking has evolved over centuries and how it is used in modern times as a social tool. As printmaking offers possible career options, enrolled students will have a chance to design and create a line of t-shirts based on screen-print designs as well as poster prints.

This introductory course is designed to increase student studio proficiency in the areas of drawing and painting. While using varied media, students will gain skills at recognizing and using the elements of art and the principles of design to create visual images. Media used may include: graphite, charcoal, chalk pastel, watercolor paint, acrylic paint, oil pastel. Art historical topics will also be explored and aspects of art criticism and aesthetics will be investigated. Students will maintain a notebook and portfolio throughout the semester.

This course is designed to further increase the technical skills of students in both two and three- dimensional art forms. Students will have more input and more options regarding project outcomes that will lead to greater levels of self- expression and creativity. Units will include the use of a variety of two- dimensional and three- dimensional art materials. Students will also view artwork from a variety of artists and explore the methods and media used by these artists. They will gain greater understanding of the use of the elements and principles of design and critical analysis as it relates to their own work and the work of others. Students will be required to maintain an actual and virtual portfolio for the course and also a sketchbook.

This course is designed to continue to increase the knowledge and skills of students in the use of a variety of visual art materials. A stronger focus on two- dimensional media will occur but three- dimensional art will still be present in the form of mixed media explorations. Student project options will continue to offer greater flexibility for self expression and individual interests. The work of other artists will be viewed and analyzed to gain an increased understanding into the processes of critical analysis and self- expression. Students will be required to maintain an actual and virtual portfolio throughout the semester and also create and maintain an Artist’s Book.

This course is designed to be a culminating experience for students who plan to further their art education after high school and/ or view visual art explorations as a lifelong passion. Students will complete projects that reflect a focus in 2 or 3 art areas in regard to specific media and/ or themes. Students will be engaged in a state of continual reflection and analysis regarding their work and the work of other artists that they have selected to investigate. Students will be required to maintain a sketchbook and actual and virtual portfolio. They will also be required to create an exhibit of their work to be presented at the Spring Arts Show or other district sponsored venue.

This course is designed for students to learn the basic formal and conceptual techniques of photography. We will be using Adobe Photoshop to process and manipulate images in class. Art based photography projects will also be introduced. Phone cameras can be used but students are encouraged to use a digital camera.

This course will continue with the formal and conceptual techniques learned in Digital Photography with more emphasis placed on the exploration of individual themes and styles. We will be using Adobe Photoshop to process and manipulate the pictures in class. Some of the photography assignments will be shot as homework assignments. Additional art-based photography projects will also be utilized. Students are encouraged to use a digital camera.

In this AP course students will explore the vast array of visual images that have been created by humans through many different time periods and places. Units will include: Contemporary Global Art, Twentieth Century Art, Asian and Oceanic Art, African Art, American Art, Early and Later European Art, Ancient Mediterranean Art, Global Prehistoric Art. Students will also experience art through virtual and on-site field trips to local and regional galleries and museums. This is not a studio class. Summer work will be required and will be due the first week of the school year and may include: reading assignments, short writing assignments and viewing art virtually and on-site. At the completion of this course, students are strongly encouraged to take an AP Art History Exam for possible college credit. The content of the course and the focus of instruction will be geared toward College Board and AP curriculum expectations.

A year-long class designed to produce the yearbook for the school. Creating the yearbook involves many applicable skills that prepare students for several types of jobs, like marketing, graphic design, journalism, accounting, photography, and more. Students will be expected to be involved in the school community to appropriately report on events and should be comfortable using a camera, interviewing students and adults, and writing about events.

This course will allow students to participate in the creation of the yearbook for a second year. Students will have greater supervisory roles in this level because of previous experience. Open to students in Grade 12 only. Pre-Requisite- Yearbook 1 and teacher recommendation.
