1708 9th GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION
1709 FOUNDATIONS OF HEALTH
Credit: 0.5 (Semester) - Requirement: All Pathways - Grade Level(s): 9
Prerequisite Recommendation: None
These courses together combine classroom work with physical, mental, and social enhancement. Students will participate in team and individual activities while in physical education class. Potential activities for physical education include fitness testing, aquatics, square dancing, tennis, ultimate football, nitro ball, kick ball, and an introduction to the weight room. Classroom activities for Health will focus on an introduction to High School Health, stress, nutrition, decision making, the drug epidemic, reproductive systems, and contraceptives. Students will be expected to cooperate with peers in small group settings, complete classroom objectives with supervision, and work independently.
1718 10th GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION
1719 DRIVERS EDUCATION

These courses together combine classroom work with physical, mental, and social enhancement. Students will participate in team and individual activities while in physical education class. Potential activities for physical education include fitness testing, aquatics, creative square dance, pickleball, flag football, ultimate, volleyball, wiffle ball, hockey. The driver’s education course will provide the fundamental theory for all driving requirements established by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Not only will students be provided with all of the necessary information and paperwork to pass their permit test, but they will also learn about purchasing a vehicle, technology advancements to use maps, technological use in vehicles, Pennsylvania driving laws, general rules of the road, and the location and function of vehicle controls. Students will have the opportunity to earn their 30 hours of in-classroom instructional hours deemed necessary by the state.
1728 11th GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION
1729 ADVANCED HEALTH

The physical education class is designed to help students develop upon skills previously learned in 9th and 10th grade physical education classes while participating in selected lifetime and sport-related activities. Lifetime activities include but are not limited to aquatics, historical and cultural dances and fitness activities. Sport-related activities will include international games, net games and field/court games. Advanced Health will examine relationship skills, stages of pregnancy, labor, birth, delivery and parenting. Following learning about labor, birth and delivery students will complete the Baby Project portion of Project Independence. After a unit on relationship violence, this course will offer a self-defense presentation which will enable the students to learn basic defense skills. Students will finish the course by learning basic first aid, CPR and studying common diseases and medical decisions.
1738 PHYSICAL EDUCATION
1739 LIVING SKILLS 12

The physical education class is designed to help students develop upon skills previously learned in 9th, 10th, & 11th grade physical education classes while participating in selected lifetime and sport-related activities. Lifetime activities include but are not limited to aquatics, creative dance, golf, recreational games and fitness activities. Sport-related activities will include both indoor and outdoor electives. Living skills will examine inclusion, mental health awareness, consequences of substance abuse, influence of media, coping, extended life care and planning, and transitioning from high school.
1790 ADAPTIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH
Credit: 0.5 (Semester) - Requirement: Assigned - Grade Level(s): 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite Recommendation: Administrative Assignment
This course enables students to have health and physical education classes in a more controlled setting that works with their physical strengths. The curriculum will follow the same alignment as the course it is linked along with. Accommodations will be made to ensure safety and success. Activities will be selected based on the strengths and challenges of the students. Students will work with an aide within a large group setting.

1740 STRENGTH TRAINING AND CONDITIONING
Credit: 0.5 (Semester) - Elective: HS, SHS - Grade Level(s): 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite Recommendation: None
This course is designed for students to develop an understanding of the skills and knowledge that enhances personal fitness goals related to strength and conditioning. Students will be expected to engage in fitness related activities on a daily basis with a majority of the days being spent in the weight room, cardio room, gymnasium, or at the track. Workouts will be completed by participants in this course depending on their need for general fitness or athletic competition. Athletes will work on programs designed specifically for preseason, in season or postseason needs. General fitness students will work on programs to improve their overall fitness levels. Students will use goal setting, plan and design, evaluation, and personal motivation.
1745 FOUNDATIONS OF FITNESS

This course is designed for all skill levels to learn about physical fitness activities they can carry on with them beyond high school and into adulthood. Concepts learned in this course include goal-setting, building a foundation for lifelong fitness, assessing personal fitness goals and exploring non-traditional ways to stay active and healthy. Activities in this course include yoga, pilates, cycling, step aerobics, walking/hiking (orienteering) and water aerobics.
1746 COMPETITIVE GAMES
Credit: 0.5 (Semester) - Elective: SHS - Grade Level(s): 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite Recommendation: None
This 10th through 12th grade course is designed for students to develop an understanding of and participate in competitive games. Content will include the history of competition and sport. In regards to athletic participation, there will be a focus on team sports, aquatics, and games related to the Olympics. Expectations for participation are higher than the core Physical Education classes offered by the department. Students will lead activities and discussions to further aid their development on these topics. The prerequisite is passing 9th Grade Physical Education.
1747 SPORTS LEADERSHIP
Credit: 0.5 (Semester) - Elective: BCS, HS, SHS - Grade Level(s): 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite Recommendation: None
In this course, students will learn about and reflect upon effective leadership qualities in future careers using sports as a mean for discussion. Topics include coaching/leadership, game creation, sports marketing, sport psychology, team-building, officiating, leadership history, and a final project which encourages students to research a field of study within the field of athletics. This course requires participation in classroom projects, inclass discussion, presentations, and gymnasium participation.
