Concert band is a large student ensemble composed of traditional concert band instruments that explores the wind band world of music. Concert Band rehearses music from different cultures and genres, and discusses music techniques and progress as musicians and specialists on our instruments. This band is intended to be student-run. Ensemble engagement is key in making the experience. Leadership positions are available. Concert band performs two concerts per year as well as commencement. This course can be repeated for up to 4 credits.

Concert Choir will work to learn and perform multiple styles of music including large-group, small-group, and solo pieces. The course will also focus on vocal health and music literacy. The Choir will participate in three performances per year (including graduation). Other choral activities may be required. This course can be repeated for up to 4 credits.

Music theory is an intensive study of fundamentals of music including harmony, melody, scales/modes, and musical form. Aural training is a component of this course. If you are currently not a member of a performing ensemble, signature is required.

This is a production-based class that encourages the exploration of music through style, genre, music theory, production, collaboration, creativity, form and analysis. Students will learn, experiment, and create with technology that exists for composers, writers, singer-songwriters, and performers.

This is a class for student musicians wishing to audition for musical experience outside of East Penn or advance in their studies on their instrument in the subject of solo literature. Students will explore performance practices applicable to their instrument/voice part informing their warm up and practice routines. Students will demonstrate musicality in the study of solo literature, chamber literature, and through performance. Students will be exposed to the different time periods and genres their instrument/voice part exists to inform musical understanding, creativity, and performances. Students will also reflect on their journey through the audition process and preparation/practice process. All students will end the class with an online portfolio of their written and performance materials to demonstrate progress and to utilize outside the boundaries of East Pennsboro.

This course will provide students with a general survey of Theatre as an art form. Students will explore the history of theater, the acting process, and learn about technical and creative jobs involved in the process of creating a theatrical production.

This is an introductory course designed to teach students the basic techniques of keyboard playing. Each unit includes playing activities and written exercises which are essential to building skills. Topics include: parts of the keyboard, proper posture, correct hand position, chord playing and reading, scale patterns, finger techniques, reading and performance of melody lines/short musical lines, and basic music theory. Students will be assessed on a regular basis through performance demonstrations and written tests.

This semester-long course will allow students specifically interested in the performance aspect of theatre to learn the history of acting as well as various acting methods from throughout history. Students will learn how to select, learn, rehearse, and perform a variety of monologues and scenes by applying those methods.

This course will give students the opportunity to learn practical skills in producing a theatrical production. Students will learn about play selection, rights acquisition, and the process of production - from auditions to performance. Students will work as stage managers, designers, technicians, front of house workers, advertisers, producers etc., in service of a play to be produced by Panther Productions and directed by its advisor. (Auditions will be advertised by the class and open to all students.)

Students will examine the music of Disney and Broadway through an exploration of historical contexts, classic performances, and meaningful compositions/techniques. This course will include an introduction to Music Technology, a final performance or composition, and detailed historical examinations of Disney, Broadway, and their synergistic combination.
